Two vehicles in Japan built the brand in the United States soon may get the ax.

The Subaru Tribeca SUV and mid-size Mazda6 sedan will cease their manufacturers seek to improve the efficiency of U.S. assembly plants, a Japanese newspaper said.

Subaru has decided to leave R & d of production of a new generation of Tribeca and end after the current version, Nikkan Kogyo business daily reported on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Mazda plans to stop manufacturing the Mazda6 at the plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, operates as a joint venture with Ford Motor Co. and Mazda that could lead to taking all together, the newspaper said.

Spokesmen for both companies declined to comment on the report.

But both Subaru and Mazda face some difficult decisions about these models into trouble.

The aging of Tribeca, which saw flat sales of only 910 units in the year to April, is sucking up valuable space in production Subaru plant in Indiana, where the company is suffering from an increased ability to build the popular Outback and Legacy.

The Nikkan Kogyo not say when the Tribeca was dropped. But the model, still in its first generation, was introduced in 2005.

Meanwhile, the Mazda6 is one of the reasons Mazda can not turn a regional operating profit in North America – one of its most important markets.

The company expects to produce 100,000 units per annum plant Mazda6 in Flat Rock, Michigan, when the redesigned sedan was launched there in mid-2008. After the financial crisis hit.

Last year the plant built only 45,168 units.

Mazda is cautious about the options you are considering. Closing the production of the Mazda6, which could bring in another vehicle – or Mazda could get off the ground completely. Speculation abounds in Japan that Mazda is considering a new, lower cost production base in North America in Mexico.

Ford has declined to comment on plans for Mazda.
